Karl’s Butcher is closing
December 14, 2007 · Leave a Comment
It was recently brought to my attention by the Sunnyside Residents Association and the Roncesvalles Village BIA that Karl’s Butcher, on Roncesvalles, will be closing. It is my understanding that under the province’s Food Safety and Quality Act (this came into effect in 2005) Karl’s Butcher qualifies as a “meat processing plant” and is required to spend $200,000 in renovations to legalize store operations. The community has approached our Member of Provincial Parliament, Cheri DiNovo, and she and her staff are working diligently on this file.
I encourage individuals to write directly to The Honourable Leona Dombrowsky, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to voice our discontent. Go to: http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/english/about/comment.html for an email form that makes it easy to send a comment or a blast.
